About this talk
This sermon explores the third piece of the armor of God from Ephesians 6:15—having feet fitted with readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Drawing on the imagery of Roman soldiers’ nailed boots, which provided speed, grip, and stability in battle, the sermon explains that Christians are in a spiritual battle against Satan and must deliberately put on God’s armor, including this gospel-rooted peace, rather than leaving it unused. The “gospel of peace” is more than the absence of conflict—it is wholeness and well-being for the soul, encompassing peace with God through justification by faith, peace among believers, peace offered to the world through the message of salvation, inner peace amid hardship, and the future lasting peace to come when Christ returns. This peace must be applied practically through training the mind (recalling the gospel when tempted to fight with other believers or despair over sin and circumstances), the heart (praying for this truth to move from head knowledge to heartfelt experience), and the mouth (speaking truth in love and wisdom to struggling believers). When worn, this readiness makes believers both stable—able to stand firm—and mobile—able to move forward through both hardship and ease. The sermon closes with an invitation to receive this peace by admitting sin and trusting in Christ’s finished work.
Main points:
- The armor of God, specifically the “readiness from the gospel of peace,” is pictured as boots that give soldiers speed, grip, and stability in battle.
- The gospel of peace brings multiple dimensions of peace: with God, with other believers, for the world, within ourselves, and future peace at Christ’s return.
- This peace must be deliberately and practically applied through training the mind, heart, and mouth.
- Believers who wear this readiness become both stable (standing firm) and mobile (progressing through all circumstances).
- A call is given to actively use the peace God has already supplied rather than neglect it, and to receive it through faith in Christ.
