About this talk

The sermon examines Exodus 4:18-31, emphasizing that the correct response to God’s visitation and rescue is to believe and obey wholeheartedly. The book of Exodus demonstrates God visiting His people to rescue them from slavery, which foreshadows Jesus’s coming with the message to “repent and believe the good news,” backed by miracles and His resurrection. True belief means trusting in Jesus as the only hope for salvation. The proper response to God’s rescue involves both believing and bowing down in worship through wholehearted obedience, even when costly. Moses exemplifies this by leaving his settled life in Midian after 40 years to obey God’s call, though he failed by not circumcising his son. God may call believers to costly obedience such as changing jobs, relocating, or leaving church communities, and requires complete obedience in every area of life including standing for Christ despite consequences, ending relationships with non-Christians, baptism, financial stewardship, and sexual purity. Even when obedience appears to fail in worldly eyes, as when God hardened Pharaoh’s heart making Moses’s mission seem unsuccessful, believers must obey completely. Zipporah’s intervention to save Moses points to Christ’s saving work, reminding us that grace is available through Jesus for believers who fail to obey completely.
